When I'm traveling light I like to carry around an Orbis ring flash adapter with me. It's great for head shots and usable for full length. The quality of light is amazing. You get the ring flash look without lugging around a ton of gear. Check it out.

First Strobist Meet-up In Houston
It's looking like we have a lot of interest in a meet-up group. I would like to see a good turn out for our first meeting and get a chance to meet face to face with all the great strobists here in Houston. Currently I'm working on a list of email address so I can send group info too. If you would like to be included in this list drop me a line.

What does ISO stand for in digital cameras?
ISO stands for "International Organization for Standardization". ISO has replaced the older ASA designation.
Since digital cameras do not use film but use image sensors instead, the ISO equivalent is usually given.
What ISO denotes is how sensitive the image sensor is to the amount of light present. The higher the ISO, the more sensitive the image sensor and therefore the possibility to take pictures in low-light situations.

Shadow Dancer
A simple and easy set-up that yields nice results. I set my D700 to 1/320th f/14 and used a SB 900 in a cheetah octabox on 1/2 power.

Expo Disk
The Expodisc is used in place of a white card to set manual white balance. It looks like a filter with a fluorescent light fixture diffuser on top and white plastic on the bottom.
